Prompt: In “Girl” by Jamaica Kincaid, the mother provides her daughter with numerous expectations about how a girl should behave. Reflect on a specific gender expectation within your culture that has been challenging for you to navigate. Then describe one clear example of this expectation and explain why it has been difficult for you. Keep your response concise, vivid, and focused on your personal experience.

Prompt Response: One gender expectation that has been hard for me to navigate in my culture has been hiding my emotions. When men show their true emotions, they're considered weak. This expectation is hard because it forces you to bottle your emotions up. Bottling up emotions can lead to depression or other mental illnesses.

Summary: Today we read a story called "Girl" and we took a quiz over it.

Reflection: I learned that I struggle with certain expectations place upon me due to me being a makle.
