Prompt: How does watching the film version of Into the Wild change or deepen your understanding of Chris McCandless compared to reading the book? In your response, explain one key difference in how his character or experiences are presented, and connect this to a time when seeing something visually changed your understanding of a situation.

Prompt Response:   The movie version of Into the Wild hits different because it makes Chris’s story feel way more personal than the book. Instead of just reading a bunch of facts and interviews, you actually see him getting weaker and more lonely. This makes his "spiritual journey" feel a lot more real and sad.  Summary:  McCandless in the movie is much different than in the book. Reflection:  I like Chris in the movie more because he seems more likeable.

Prompt: Chris and his sister Carine McCandless had a very close relationship, even when he struggled to connect with others. Write about a relationship in your life where you feel truly understood. Explain what makes that relationship strong and how it compares to the connection between Chris and Carine in Into the Wild.

Prompt Response:  One relationship that I have with someone where I feel truly understood is with my parents. They are always there for me and know what I do and don't like. What makes our relationship strong is that we communicate with each other and spend time with each other. My relationship with parents has few similarities with the relationship between Chris and his sister. Summary:  I have a good relationship with my parents.  Reflection:  I hope to be able to spend more time with my parents and maybe make good relationships with others.

In your opinion, what builds trust in a relationship, and what can damage it?

Response: Being honest is something that can build trust in a relationship. Also if you spend time with the person, you can build a better relationship with them. Summary:  Being honest and spending time with a person can build trust. Reflection:  I have built many relationships with family and friends.

Prompt: Based on the first 40 minutes of the film and Chapters 1–11 of the book, does the visual version of Chris’s journey make his choices seem more justified or more reckless than the text does? Explain how the medium (film vs writing) shapes your perspective.

Prompt Response:  I think Chris's choices are more reckless after watching the movie because in the movie, Chris and his parents didn't seem to have a bad relationship. The medium shapes my perspective by making Chris's actions feel both justified and reckless.  Summary:  Chris made both a reckless and justified action. Reflection:  In the coming chapters I hope Chris will be able to make good decisions.

Prompt: Think about a moment when your understanding of your family changed as you got older. How did that shift impact your perspective, and how does that connect to Chris’s realization about his parents in Chapter 11?

When I grew up the veil was lifted from my eyes. Summary:  Growing up taught me a lot about how life really is. Reflection:  As I've grown up I have learned many lessons and how to live.
