Prompt: Thanksgiving is a time for giving thanks and spending time with family over a nice dinner. Write about your most unforgettable meal.

  Prompt Response:  My most unforgettable meal was when I had my grandma's Mac and cheese. It was so cheesy and creamy. The breadcrumbs on the top also made it much more enjoyable.  Summary:  I had Mac and cheese and it was very tasty. Reflection:  I'm excited for this upcoming thanksgiving because there will be lots of good food.

Prompt: Write about a time when you realized you needed to look out for yourself in a silly or harmless situation—maybe dodging a pop quiz, escaping a group chat argument, or remembering at the last second to submit an assignment. How did choosing wisely make your life easier?

  Prompt Response:  Quite a few times in my life, I have had to submit an assignment really close to the deadline because I totally forgot about it. Most times I would turn it in roughly 1 hour before it is due but one particular time, I turned it in just seconds before it was due. It was on a Friday night and I was out having dinner with my family, we got home pretty late after we had finished eating and I decided to call my friend to see if he wanted to play video games with me. We began to play and we were chatting about what had happened during the day. Eventually he brought up that we had to turn in some assignment that night. I had totally forgotten about it and I rushed over to my chromebook to check the time. The time was 11:58. I knew I had just seconds before it was late thankfully I turned it in on time. Summary:  I forgot about an assignment and had to turn it in right before the deadline. Reflection:  I need to be better at being on top of my school work...

Prompt: Describe a time that you had an encounter with a homeless person, either directly or indirectly. What did you think and how did it make you feel?

  Prompt Response:  One time when I was in a McDonald's, a homeless guy cam in a sat down with me. He began to spew why he became homeless. He said that he had come back from a tour in the middle east and when he got back he couldn't get a job or any housing because he had no money.  Summary:  While I was at McDonald's, I met a homeless person and he told me about how he became homeless. Reflection:  I hope that the man I talked to is doing better now and he has shelter to sleep in.

Prompt: Write about what you are thankful for.

  Prompt Response:  Something that I'm thankful for is the game of basketball. I can have fun everyday playing the game that I love. Lots of friends that I have made came from basketball.  Summary:  I am thankful for the game of basketball. Reflection:  I will continue to get better at the game of basketball.

Prompt: The last scene forces readers to reinterpret Emily’s entire life. Write about a moment when new information changed your perception of a person or situation. How did that “plot twist” reshape your understanding, the same way Faulkner’s ending reshapes the story?

  Prompt Response:  I had a friend who I was cool with during freshman year. At some point during freshman year, he began smoking and I didn't know about it. He kept it a secret until one day someone told me that he was smoking. My whole perception of that person completely changed. Before I was cool with the guy and hung out with him. But when I found out, I didn't want to hang out as much. I'm not a fan of smoking. Summary:  During my freshman year, I was friends with someone until I found out that they smoked. Reflection:  I don't want to be around people who smoke.

Prompt: In “A Rose for Emily,” Miss Emily’s actions shock the reader—she kills her fiancé and keeps his body in her home for years. People often react with disbelief when they hear about real-life stories that seem just as unbelievable. Write about the most shocking or “craziest” news story you have ever heard. What happened, and why did it stand out to you? How did people react to it, and what does it reveal about human behavior?

Prompt Response:  The craziest new I have ever heard was that a man killed lots of people and skinned them. I just can't comprehend why you would do such a thing. Find a hobby like fishing and carpentry, or do something else that is productive. When I heard about this even I was mortified because it was something that actually happened to multiple people. Summary:  I heard about a story where a serial killer skinned his victims. Reflection:  I hope people come to their senses and don't try to hurt others for unjustified reasons.

Prompt: Miss Emily’s house once represented pride and tradition, but over time it became a symbol of decay and isolation. Describe a place that holds deep memories for you—positive or negative—and explain how it reflects part of who you are or how you’ve changed over time.

Prompt Response:  One place that holds deep memories for me is my grandparents house in Scotland. It reflects part of me because it is a beautiful house in a beautiful area. Growing up I traveled to Scotland to spend time with my family. Over time it has gotten older and things have changed, just like life.  Summary:  My grandparents house has deep memories rooted in it. Reflection:  I hope to go to their house again.

Prompt: Think about the vocabulary words from Lesson Two. Write about a time you saw or heard one of these words outside of the classroom — maybe in a movie, song, social media post, or book. Describe how it was used and whether the context helped you understand the word better.

  Prompt Response:  One time while I was watching a movie there was a vocabulary word used and this really enhanced the script. Through the usage of the word, I was able to understand what the character was saying in a deeper understanding.  Summary:  While I was watching a movie, I noticed that the script included a vocabulary word that I knew. Reflection:  I hope to continue to learn new vocabulary words to enlarge my vocabulary pallet. 

Thinking about “The Rockpile,” which parent or guardian in your life has been the strictest when it comes to discipline? Explain how their approach to discipline has influenced you or shaped your behavior.

  Prompt Response:  I would say my dad is stricter when it comes to discipline because he wants the best for me. When I was younger he was a lot stricter so that as I got older, I would build some good habits. Things like early bed times and not being on screens right before bed were some of the most often things he would tell me to do. Summary:  My dad is the parent that is most strict. Reflection:  I'm thankful that my dad built these good habits for me because they're beneficial.  

Thinking about "The Rockpile," what is something your parents forbade you from doing when you were growing up? Explain what it was and why they might have set that rule.

  Prompt Response:  One thing that my parents forbid me from doing was going to a park at night. This park is located in Candler Park and its called The Land Trust. The park has a community place where people come together and listen to music. At night though, many people go there to do drugs and smoke. Although my parents told me not to go I would still go with my cousins.  Summary:  My parents told me not to go to the park at night but I did anyways. Reflection:  Although I went to the park at night I didn't take part in any drug consumption or anything else. I just hung out with my cousins.  

Words shape how we think, write, and interpret literature. Think about a time when learning a new word or understanding a specific term helped you better analyze a text, express an idea, or make your writing stronger.

  Prompt Response:  Through vocabulary, I have greatly improved my literature capabilities. I've learned new words that have allowed me to create better flowing pieces of writing. Some vocab words that I've learned are unforeseen, overcome, and conscious. It also helped me understand how to analyze texts Summary:  Vocabulary has allowed me to better understand and analyze texts and pieces of writing. Reflection:  I will continue to expand my knowledge on these topics.
