Lit Final Period 5

Prompt: As the first semester comes to an end, take time to reflect on your learning and growth in this course. In a well-developed response, explain what you enjoyed most about the class, identify the project or assignment you found most engaging, and discuss which aspect of the course you connected with the most (such as poetry, fiction, writing, or discussion). Finally, reflect on one area where you feel you need additional support or improvement as we move into the spring semester.

Prompt Response:  I really enjoyed my time in this class. I enjoyed the curriculum and all of the people in my class. I'm glad I had the opportunity to learn about the Literature that comes from American history. I think I am the most connected with fiction writing because I can easily grasp what ever the story is about. One thing I need to get better at is poetry. I need to get better at understanding different forms of writing. Summary:  I have enjoyed this semester in this class. Reflection:  I hope to have a good Christmas and next semester.

Prompt: Many holidays center around traditions. Describe one tradition that is important to you or your family and explain why it still matters (or why it no longer does).

  Prompt Response:  One tradition that my family does is White Elephant. The rules of the game is that everyone buys a gift for someone else. Once the gifts are gathered, one person is randomly chosen to pick a present. Once they finish their turn, the next person goes. They have two options to choose from, you can steal their present or they can choose a different present. Summary:  My family has a on going tradition of playing a game called white elephant. Reflection:  I know I will have lots of fun playing this with my family and relatives.

Prompt: How have the holidays changed as you have grown older? Compare your experiences of the holidays during childhood with how you experience them now, focusing on shifts in perspective, responsibilities, or emotional meaning.

  Prompt Response:  The holiday have changed for me as I've gotten old because now I focus more on family instead of presents. I seek to make my family and other happy instead of just being self centered. Also because I'm older and have the funds to buy others presents, I'm expected to get many people gifts. Summary:  Christmas has slightly changed for me as I've gotten older. Reflection:  I hope to have lots of fun this holiday and make others happy.

Prompt: Write about something you’ve outgrown but still miss.

  Prompt Response:  I have outgrown playing in the sandbox, but I miss having so much fun with my friends. I would build Sandcastles with my friends and just enjoy life. Also my family was their watching over me. Those were the days. Summary:  I miss playing in the sandbox with my friends. Playing in there gave me many memories. Reflection:  I'm glad I had the opportunity to do this when I was younger.

Prompt: Write about something that you can't stop thinking about.

  Prompt Response:  I can't stop thinking about basketball games that I played in the past. I wish I did better or I wish I did something else to make myself do better. Also just like when we lose, I think about what happened that caused us to lose. Summary: I think about winning and losing basketball games. Reflection:  I will continue to get better at basketball and improve my skills.

  Reflection: I'm proud of who I am and what I do. I wouldn't change it for the world. I hope to continue to express myself to others. 

Prompt: Write about the best gift you have received.

  Prompt Response:  The best gift I've ever received was when I got plane tickets to Hawaii. This was in 2017 during Christmas. I was so excited because I had a friend that lived in Hawaii and we were going to see him. Also I love going to places that were tropical with lots of beaches and clear water. Summary:  In Christmas 2017 I got plane tickets to travel to Hawaii and visit one of my friends. Reflection:  I'm thankful for all of the great experiences that I've had over the years.

Short Film Identity Blog Post

 Prompt Response:  The masks in the film show how some people act differently in certain situations. Some people try to act cool just to fit in, but in reality they're friendless and aren't enjoying being around those people. When you take off the mask people might look at you differently and not like you. But it is better to be yourself than try to be different. Summary:  Be yourself and don't let others define you. Reflection:  I will continue to be happy about myself and be myself.

Prompt: In “I, Too,” the speaker expresses pride in his identity and his rightful place in America. Reflect on your own life: What aspect of your cultural identity are you most proud of, and why?

  Prompt Response:  I'm most proud of being an American. I have lots of freedom and opportunities to do things that sometimes aren't available in other countries. Also I'm proud to have a great family and other Americans around me that treat me with equality and respect. Summary:  I am a proud American citizen. Reflection:  I hope America stays the same and will continue to be a good place to live.

Prompt: In “We Real Cool,” the speakers make choices that seem exciting, bold, and rebellious, even though those choices lead to consequences. Write about a moment in your own life when you followed what looked cool or fun, only to realize afterwards that it wasn’t the smart or responsible path. What influenced your decision, and how did your perspective change later?

  Prompt Response:  One time I decided to stay out late with my friends after having dinner. We left the restaurant and walked all around Decatur. We ran into not the nicest people and we had to walk away from them. I learned that its not good to follow others just because I think it is cool. It is better to know if it is right or wrong. Summary:  I decided to stay out with friends because I thought it was cool. Reflection:  I should decided if it is right or wrong before doing something.

Prompt: Discuss something meaningful or memorable you experienced over the break, or reflect on what you felt most thankful for during that time.

  Prompt Response:  I'm very thankful for my family and my friends. They have made me into a great person and taught me how to be a good human being. I'm also thankful for basketball. Through basketball I have learned great values and good ways to live. Summary:  I'm thankful for family, basketball, and friends. Reflection:  I hope to continue to be happy and thankful for the things around me.
